Even orgies are being canceled in the wake of coronavirus.

Inevitably when something like coronavirus happens I get an email from a Christian leader that tells me I am to “Stand in the gap and pray for America and Trump” as if coronavirus is an attack from Satan on America, you know, God’s holy nation. But it is God that sends judgements on the earth like pestilence and they are used for His purposes. This forced sabbath should be a period of rest and reflection for Christians as we enter another election season, in a nation in need of non-partisan Jesus rather than the counterfeit power of cultural compromise.

Even orgies are being canceled in the wake of coronavirus, reported The Cut. The national sex club SNCTM “postponed its L.A. masquerade until further notice, and will make a decision on its forthcoming New York masquerade in the next few weeks”. Sports have been canceled in unprecedented fashion, the boasting of Donald Trump has been brought down a few notches as the stock market, his barometer of success, has crashed and exposed the fake gains driven by stock repurchases and debt in the wake of reckless Federal Reserve policy.

As I shared recently on social media:

We have a rare opportunity with sports being turned off and the idols we put our hope in, money and politics which are showing their weakness, to turn our undivided attention to God. It is almost like He is making a statement.

That statement is repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.

When Jesus taught the disciples to pray it was simple, it was to pray for the Kingdom to come and for God’s will to be done. And as the Kingdom of Heaven comes closer to earth the Bible gives clear warning of what that will look like. Upon entering the Tribulation pandemic, pestilence in addition to sword kills ¼ of the earth’s population and yes, that is before the restrainer is removed. That is all before His wrath.

Regardless of your stance on eschatology the mission of the Church was also very simple: share the Gospel, make disciples.

For the pious religious zealot it would seem that any advancement we make against abortion through conservative politics in America would be a win for Jesus. But all this does is expose the underlying reality that we don’t understand the power of the Gospel, the purpose of Christ’s mission, our commission, and that American evangelism has drifted from the heart of Billy Graham’s evangelism to the political activist, castrating the strength of our calling and exchanging it for a sterile and powerless idol.

All the while this generation and the next becomes more greedy, more wicked, more depraved and more in need of spiritual awakening than before.

The question is are we in the end times Church, where Christians become lovers of self and by extension their earthly citizenship, where we elevate man and in turn become handed over to our idols only to find ourselves in a Great Apostasy where people have their hearts hardened towards God rather than softened by the power of the Holy Spirit?

Has the Holy Spirit begun His withdrawal or have we quenched the Spirit with political division and idolatry?

Is having our idols removed or knocked down waking us up or is our obsession with American exceptionalism and our earthly citizenship still what we are willing to defend, rather than surrendering all to God?

Images of lockdown in Italy and around the world look very similar to the streets of Israel during shabbat or the sabbath. I can not help but see a forced sabbath rest, where our American gods and idols of sports, money and politics are being put on hold and displayed as weakness before the mighty hand of God. Where we see the frailty of our humanity and the fragility of our supply chains and human systems on full display.

So no, I will not pray with you that this passes before a lesson is learned. Before we see our folly for what it is and we repent, for God is Holy and He is coming. He is coming with a sword to separate sheep from goats, not to appease the desires of the flesh of men.

“Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written:
